Performed numerous technical studies for DARPA in web-based advanced systems development issues. These included studies on areas such as common look and feel for integrated tool suites, improving performance over unreliable low-speed connections, and memory utilization/leaks, and implementation issues concerning newer but incompatible versions of multiple COTS products. |
Led a study team to identify automated systems to assist USACOM in the performance of their newly-expanded duties. The systems reviewed were both COTS and GOTS, and spanned from shell systems to scheduling systems, training support systems, and costing systems. |
At A&T, performed a study to determine the appropriate automated circuit board manufacturing systems for use in supporting NUWC DET NORFOLK. Analyzed NUWC requirements, surveyed equipment manufacturers to gather data on their systems, and performed cost/benefit analyses to develop a set of recommendations for the study report. |
While on a summer faculty fellowship to Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock, performed an in-depth study of the many projects being supported under the company's IR&D program. Documented the interrelationships between many of the projects, any deficiencies in the projects, and made recommendations on improving both individual projects and the overall research and development environment at the shipyard. |
Led a management study team to develop systems requirements and identify existing automated systems to assist USACOM in the performance of their newly-expanded duties. The systems reviewed were both commercial and government systems, and spanned from shell systems to scheduling systems, training support systems, and costing systems. |
Upon development of the CIM program at Old Dominion University, performed a survey of over 400 local manufacturing businesses in the region. Developed a comprehensive report detailing present and future capabilities in manufacturing technologies and business practices. |
Under the BDM contract to the Joint Tactical Command, Control, and Communications Agency (JTC3A), undertook a study to improve the tracking and reporting of the tremendous amount of management data for the over 200 tasks under the $35 million contract. As a result of this study and Dr. Pardue's recommendations, reporting time delay was cut from over 40 days to 10 days, accuracy was doubled, and management/customer control was improved. |
Led a BDM team in a study to develop a Variable Message Format (VMF) specification that would enhance interoperability among various types of communications systems including circuit switching, packet switching, message switching, broadcast, and local area networks (LANs). The study looked at network operations and associated protocols for the different types of networks, and presented VMF applications to be used by program managers and system developers when developing specifications for new systems. He also analyzed the VMF to identify functions within the framework of the ISO OSI model. |
Participated in a BDM effort to study message compaction techniques. These techniques would be applied to character-oriented messages to reduce the number of bits required to be transmitted. Data element coding, application of message protocols, and compaction algorithms were studied. |
Performed an analysis of the Joint Interoperability of Tactical Command and Control Systems (JINTACCS) analysis and evaluation plan to show how all objectives would be met by the data collection effort. The network analysis started with the evaluation requirements and traced through the performance measures, the data collection forms, and finally the data elements collected. Helped develop the detailed procedures for analysis which was used to analyze the data obtained during the JINTACCS Intelligence OED. |
While at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, conducted a study of the performance of an electronic Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant subsystem modified by a prime contractor field change. |
Participated in two major studies while working at the NASA-Langley Research Center. Correlated and evaluated helicopter sling-load accident data obtained from the National Transportation Safety Board and the U.S. military branches. This study formed the background for a study of several control systems to stabilize helicopter sling-loads. Was the major contributor in a study of one of these control systems and was involved in research of several other control systems. |
